They say hope is not a strategy. Maybe it’s not when it’s a noun. It seems like something intangible and really damn hard to hold onto. Some believe hope is a waste of time, and that those who lean into it simply have rose-colored glasses on that they won’t remove.
Let’s be honest. Hope can be messy and complicated. We want it to be this reassuring feeling; to mimic the love and affection given to us by a mother. We’d love for it to tuck us in at night and surround us on the hardest of days.
Unfortunately, it rarely looks like this. We get rushes of it or samplings here and there. It’s not consistent, as we’d like it to be, because we don’t really control it. All the positive thinking in the world does not generate hope.
So, what does? Where does hope come from these days? It is from the words of those we admire, looking back at the patterns of history where dictators always fail, or from a ruling by a judge who still respects the constitution? Is it in the blue waves we’ve seen in the elections of 2025?
Maybe we can eke out some hope when these things happen. Then, on cue, the regime and its sycophants try to squash it. They really hate hope. In fact, they thrive on taking it away. They want us to be weary and hopeless. All authoritarians devise ways to crush resistance.
Resistance Is Hope
Because resistance is hope. And resistance without hope leads to worlds not worth saving. We believe this country is still worth saving.
When it all comes down to it, our hope is in each other. When one person stands up, it’s easier for others to follow. We have to be active participants in hope. Hope is a verb, not just a noun.
United hope has the capacity to ignite change—real change. Isn’t that what the majority of us want?
Big things don’t happen without a grassroots start. That’s the foundation of Indivisible. We have to get our community to hope. Not in some abstract way, but in actual action—joining us, protesting, pushing back, calling out, and never relenting.
Unified hope has power. While it still may not be a strategy, it’s a pillar for the strategy to organize so we can practice mass civil disobedience. We won’t cooperate with the regime and its lawlessness.
